Summary

Vision, values and moral purpose

This introductory session will enable the participants to consider their own vision for their area and how this aligns with school and Trust visions alongside the Avanti Way.

  • Understand what a vision is and why it’s important
  • Reflect on the values and moral purpose that guide and direct their behaviours

Developing your Leadership approach

These sessions will include the importance of self-awareness and emotional intelligence as well as exploring leadership characteristics and styles. By the end of these session, participants will:

  • Have reflected on their own personalities, characteristics and behaviours so that they become more self-aware
  • Be familiar with the research on emotional intelligence and effective communication and understand the impact of behaviour on their teams
  • Have explored the differences between leadership and management and the impact of different leadership styles within their team

Building a high-performance team

These sessions will focus on the key ingredients needed to create and sustain a high-performance team. By the end of these session, participants will:

  • Have explored the characteristics of high performing teams and dysfunctional teams
  • Have techniques and strategies to motivate self and others
  • Have an awareness of Drexler Sibbet’s Team Performance Model and reflect on this
  • Understand what sort of leader they want to be and how they can effectively and consistently manage their team

Holding others to account

These sessions will focus on the role of accountability and performance management. By the end of these session, participants will:

  • Be familiar with the Teachers’ Standards and the Standard for Teachers’ Professional Development
  • Understand their role in setting the team culture and expectations
  • Have effective strategies and systems for holding others to account and evaluating team and individual performance

Outcomes

  • By the end of the programme, participants will have completed the following:
  • An on-going middle leadership journal, which records reflections on their own leadership development. This 'log' of leadership reflections will be used during or after each individual coaching session.
  • Discussions and insights through case studies, reading, coaching and self-reflection revealing your personal leadership style.
  • Increased your ability to lead, manage, motivate and develop people in your team.
