Summary

Walkthrus Section A | Why were the WalkThrus created? In answering the question I'll cover: • professional amnesia of effective techniques through a lack of capture and curation of teaching's best methods • lethal mutation — the word-of-mouth repetition and change that robs evidence-based techniques of their effectiveness • dual coding principles applied to teacher development • the need to have both precise explanations and, at the same time, sufficient adaptability for teachers and schools to make adaptations • the need for an Instructional Coaching playbook that offers a common language and shared understanding

Section B | What is the WalkThru unique advantage? In answering the question I'll cover: • the A|D|A|P|T process for individual WalkThrus • the Playbook • the sequencing of individual WalkThrus into Clusters (the 'play' of Playbook) • revealing teachers' reasoning when creating Clusters • the multi-media resources of the WalkThru members site and how to use them.

Section C | How do you implement the WalkThrus? In answering this question, I'll cover: • using the WalkThrus in the Instructional Coaching process • how to use them in Unseen Observations, online training, team meetings and CPD events • the Six Design Decisions for leaders • how to customise the modular design of the WalkThrus to align with your visions and other frameworks you use • how to integrate individual, team, school and Trust commitments through the WalkThrus

Outcomes

Our Teacher Toolkit provides a set of tools for schools, staff and leaders to use in order to develop pedagogy across the trust. Includes the habits, a self evaluation tool, implementation plans, website, CPD and will grow and develop over time. Identifies what The Avanti Way looks like in a classroom context. Is made up of 12 habits that underpin practice in an Avanti classroom. Is rooted in cognitive science. Gives us a shared language to speak about best practice for learning and teaching in an Avanti school. Links each habit to a cluster of classroom techniques to support a teacher’s development. Provides a model for teacher development when used with an instructional coaching model. https://avanti.org.uk/institute/teacher-toolkit/
