Summary

This workshop is part one of the LCI-UK Standard 'Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement' and can be taken as a standalone workshop, giving you the confidence to tackle real-world challenges in your workplace.

This interactive session introduces key Lean methodologies and guides you through applying them to a live problem, culminating in a practical action plan for improvement. Through a dynamic mix of observation, discussion, and practical exercises, you’ll explore essential tools such as:

  • Cause & Effect (Fishbone) Diagram
  • 5 Whys Template
  • Ease/Benefit Matrix
  • Quad of Aims

By the end of the session, you’ll not only understand these tools but feel empowered to use them effectively in your day-to-day work. Whether you're new to Lean or looking to sharpen your skills, this workshop offers a supportive and engaging environment to learn, share, and grow.

CITB grant funding is available on completion of the full standard (part one and part two). Currently set at £140 per person, LCI-UK will process the grant payment for employees of eligible levy-paying companies.

A pre-requisite for this course is a grounding in Lean in Construction. If you don't have an prior experience of Lean, book onto the full day course, combining both 'Introduction to Lean' and 'Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement


Outcomes

On completion of this training participants will be able to:

  • Apply a structured approach to identifying and describing a problem in their work area
  • Carry out root cause analysis to identify the reason(s) why the problem occurs
  • Apply problem-solving tools to formulate ideas to address the problem
  • Draw up an action plan to further investigate and resolve the problem.

  • Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement - Part 2 (to complete the LCI-UK Standard). On completion of part 2, eligible candidates / companies benefit from CITB grant funding of £140 per person.
