Summary

Recent reviews for Recognised Standards

A lot of us remember the old GI’ orGeneric Induction’ of yester-year. It came into existence in 1997, then in 2012 along came Recognised Standard 11 which set in Legislation an Industry Induction as a prerequisite to being employed on a coalmine.

In July 2023 the Recognised Standard 11 was reviewed and updated. Similarly, a revised Recognised Standard 2 Control of risk management practices is out (July 2023) as a Draft.

One Recognised Standard, R.S. 22 Management structure, has reinforced the similar section of the Act (s55 Management structure for safe operations at coal mines) in further defining/clarifying the requirement of a management structure. This Recognised Standard 22 is specific to your mine site and is unable to be treated as a generic product. The section 5.6 is common for all “supervisors” (as defined in section 5.1 of the Standard) where it requires all supervisors to have the areas of competence covering: - • Knowledge of legislative or procedural requirements; • Knowledge of safety and risk management practices; • Knowledge of controlling hazards relevant to the activity and the position’s responsibilities; and • Knowledge of emergency management.

These are very mine site specific and role specific.
