Intro to Lean / Problem Solving

Summary

Two workshops in a day giving learners a vital foundation in Lean thinking and problem solving.

Morning

This interactive workshop offers a practical and engaging introduction to Lean thinking in construction.

Through a hands-on activity you’ll explore how Lean principles and tools can drive real improvements in your work. Whether you're new to Lean or looking to refresh your understanding, this half-day session helps you see the value of Lean in action and how it can be applied to everyday processes.

The course is suitable for professionals at all levels and is delivered face-to-face.

The Lean Construction Institute (LCI-UK) Standard 'Introduction to Lean' attracts CITB grant funding, for employees of eligible companies, currently set at £140 per person (tier 2 funding). The grant payment will be processed by LCI-UK upon completion of the course.

Outcomes

By the end of the Introduction to Lean session, you will be able to:

  • Describe the basic principles of Lean.
  • Identify key Lean tools and techniques.
  • Understand how Lean process improvement can be applied in your role.
  • Capture initial ideas for improvement projects in your area of work.

This will give you a grounding for the afternoon session.

Afternoon

On completion of part 1 of the 'Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement', you will be able to:

  • Apply a structured approach to identifying and describing a problem in their work area
  • Carry out root cause analysis to identify the reason(s) why the problem occurs
  • Apply problem-solving tools to formulate ideas to address the problem
  • Draw up an action plan to further investigate and resolve the problem.

What next?

  • Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement - Part 2 (to complete the LCI-UK Standard). On completion of part 2, eligible candidates / companies benefit from CITB grant funding of £140 per person.
  • Module 3: 5S Work Place Organisation (workshop / part one of the standard)
  • Module 4: Lean Construction and Waste (workshop / part one of the standard)
