This full day course includes two separate sessions on two vital Lean skills: Visual Management, and 5S Workplace Organisation.
If you would like to achieve the LCI-UK Standard in each of these skills, please book a 'part-two' workshop separately. On completion of the full standard, LCI-UK can apply for CITB grant funding on behalf of eligible candidates (employees of levy registered companies), and upload achievements to the Construction Training Register.
5S Workplace Organisation Workshop
5S is a Lean methodology that helps create safe, efficient, and organised work environments. It stands for Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardise, Sustain - a structured approach to ensure tools, materials, and workflows are always where they should be, when needed.
Course Overview
This is a half-day, standalone workshop for those seeking to embed Lean workplace practices, and introduces participants to the 5S methodology in real construction settings. Through hands-on workshops, participants will observe, audit, and improve their workspaces to reduce waste, increase efficiency, and improve safety.
Participants will:
- Learn 5S fundamentals through interactive activities.
- Conduct a site audit to identify improvement opportunities.
- Apply tools such as red tagging and Cause & Effect diagrams.
- Develop an action plan for implementing 5S.
Visual Management Workshop
Visual Management uses visual tools - such as boards, signs, and displays - to make key project information clear and accessible. It improves safety, productivity, and coordination by ensuring everyone can see the status of work, responsibilities, and risks ‘at a glance’.
Course Overview
This session introduces participants to the principles and practice of Visual Management. Through the workshop participants will learn to assess and implement visual tools that improve communication, reduce errors, and support efficient workflows. It is a half-day, standalone workshop ideal for embedding Lean thinking into site operations.
Participants will:
- Learn the fundamentals of Visual Management.
- Conduct a virtual site walk to identify improvement opportunities.
- Explore controls, aids, and displays as key tool types.
- Develop an action plan to implement visual tools.
