This full day course includes two separate sessions on two key topics: Standardised Work, and Lean Construction & Waste
If you would like to achieve the LCI-UK Standard in each of these skills, please book a 'part-two' workshop separately. On completion of the full standard, LCI-UK can apply for CITB grant funding on behalf of eligible candidates (employees of levy registered companies), and upload achievements to the Construction Training Register.
Standardised Work
Standardised Work is a Lean Construction technique that focuses on identifying and documenting the best way to perform a task consistently. It reduces variation, improves safety and quality, and enables teams to work more efficiently by following agreed-upon methods.
Course Overview
This practical, hands-on workshop introduces participants to the principles and application of Standardised Work in construction environments. Through interactive workshops, participants will learn how to observe, map, and improve work processes, culminating in a documented standard that can be implemented and sustained.
This standalone session is ideal for those looking to embed Lean practices into their daily operations.
Participants will:
- Gain understanding of Standardised Work through engaging activities.
- Conduct a site-based process review to identify inefficiencies.
- Map current workflows and develop a future-state standard process.
- Create an action plan to implement improvements.
Lean Construction, Value and Waste
In Lean Construction, value refers to work that directly contributes to what the customer truly needs - activities that are purposeful, efficient, and aligned with project goals. Waste is anything that consumes time, materials, or effort without adding value.
Course Overview
This workshop will help participants understand and apply Lean principles to identify and reduce waste in real construction environments. Through interactive activity, participants will learn how to observe, analyse, and improve processes to deliver greater value.
Participants will:
- Learn the 8 types of waste using the TIMWOOD framework.
- Conduct a virtual “Waste Walk” to observe and document inefficiencies on site.
- Use tools like the 5 Whys and Cause & Effect diagrams to analyse root causes.
- Develop an action plan to reduce waste and improve productivity.
