Summary

This is our intermediate level Power BI course. It is designed for people who work in education and have some experience with MS Power BI Desktop. It builds on our Microsoft Power BI for Educators (Beginners) course.

The course is built around Power BI Desktop - you need your own copy (free from Microsoft). Like all our Power BI courses, we put a lot of emphasis on practical, hands-on activities in Power BI Desktop. Examples/activities on this course are for an education content/audience.

Course content includes:

  1. Refresh - import data from MS Excel and why the format matters.
  2. Building more complex reports - the standard charts/visualisations.
  3. Multiple data sources - not just Excel.
  4. Connecting tables - building relationships.
  5. Doing more with DAX and Measures.
  6. Report design - understand your audience.
  7. Sharing reports via the online Power BI service - data refresh & permissions.

The course is designed so that you:

  1. Build a solid Power BI foundation
  2. Become a productive Power BI user - you can start producing valuable reports.
  3. Can actually use Power BI to find insights about students, courses and the performance of your organisation.

Prerequisites

To get maximum value from the course you need to have reasonable MS Excel skills. You should know how to use Power BI Desktop to:

  1. Import data tables from Excel
  2. Build basic reports with visualisations like slicers, line graphs and bar/column charts.
  3. Add columns to your data with calculated columns and measures
  4. Export your report to the online Power BI service

Most importantly, it helps a lot if you come to the course with some idea (and possibly data) of a problem you would like to solve with Power BI.

These skills are important because we look at how data in Excel should be formatted before import in Power BI Desktop.

Can I bespoke the course?

The best way to bespoke the course is to ask us to build around your own data. We can replace our own course sample data with some of your spreadsheets. That way at the course you have a working, fully interactive report built in Power BI Desktop that you can use and share with colleagues.

Online training requirements

You will need:

  • A good internet connection
  • Webcam & audio
  • MS Windows PC with Power BI Desktop (download is free from Microsoft).

Payment

We invoice for payment before the course starts.

Outcomes

At the end of the Microsoft Power BI for Educators (Intermediate) training course you should be able to:
